Know what each number includes.
Published 2023 NFDA medians are the starting point for every local model. Prices paid by a family can be higher or lower, and several common cemetery and third-party expenses are outside these figures.
Family provides the alternative container; no ceremony included.
Viewing and ceremony included in the national median.
Viewing, ceremony, hearse, and a median-priced metal casket.
Funeral-with-burial median plus the NFDA median vault price.
Usually separate: cemetery plot, opening and closing the grave, monument or marker, flowers, obituary charges, clergy or celebrant fees, death certificates, and other cash-advance items.
Start where arrangements will be made.
Each state page explains the price-level adjustment and lists every included community. A city guide then adds local population, income, and housing-cost context.
Visible inputs. Rounded results. No invented survey.
We multiply each NFDA national median by the state’s BEA all-items Regional Price Parity divided by 100, then round to the nearest $50. Because the BEA measure covers the broad cost of goods and services—not funeral services alone—the result is best used as a planning estimate and a starting point for local quotes.
