“Mortgage protection insurance” is a marketing term often used for life insurance intended to help a beneficiary manage a mortgage or other housing costs if the insured person dies. It is different from private mortgage insurance (PMI), which generally protects a lender from borrower default, and different from homeowners insurance, which covers specified property and liability risks.
